Officer Rescues Toddler From West Seattle Retention Pond

A Southwest Precinct Officer rescued a two-year-old girl Saturday after she was found in a retention pond near her West Seattle home.

The girl’s parents called 911 to report their daughter was missing from the Highpoint neighborhood just before noon today.  They reported last seeing the child in the backyard of their home where some family members were watching her.

Officers arrived three minutes after the initial 911 call and were told the child had been found in a retention pond near the home.  Officer Tyler Keating reached the child first and discovered she was not breathing and had no pulse.  After quickly calling medics, Officer Keating started CPR and then reported she now had a pulse and shallow breathing.

Medics arrived and took over treatment, taking the now crying girl to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.
