Man Arrested for String of Beacon Hill Greenbelt Fires

Officers took a man into custody Monday evening after he set multiple fires along the Beacon Hill Greenbelt.

Seattle Police and Seattle Fire departments responded to reports of fires near 12 Ave S. and S. Dearborn St just after 2 PM today.  Firefighters extinguished the small fires as officers received word that there was a man walking through the area intentionally setting fires. Police did not find the man at that time, but remained in the area.

Fires sprung up again in the same area around 5 PM.  Witnesses described the suspect in this later incident as a white or Hispanic male with short cropped hair or possible mohawk and wearing black shorts. Officers scoured the area for the next three hours all while firefighters put out additional fires.

Officers searching the area around the International District located the suspect just before 7:30 PM and took him into custody.  Arson Bomb Squad Detectives are now interviewing the suspect before he is booked into King County Jail.
