Man Arrested As Police Investigate May Assault as Homicide

Detectives are investigating a May assault as a homicide after a man died more than a month after an altercation in the International District. Police have arrested a 31-year-old suspect in the case.

On May 2nd, witnesses reported the 45-year-old victim was at 5th Avenue South and South Jackson Street when he became involved in a confrontation with another man.  The victim was assaulted and knocked to the ground, but his level of injury was unclear at the time he was taken to the hospital.  Officers responded to the scene and identified a possible suspect in the case before releasing him pending charges. Homicide detectives took over the case when the victim’s condition failed to improve. The victim passed away on June 26th.

Today, Homicide Detectives arrested a suspect in the case after working closely with the King County Prosecutor and King County Medical Examiner’s office. Detectives will continue to work with prosecutor to determine charges to be filed in this case.  The suspect, a 31-year-old male, was booked into the King County Jail.
