Officers Chase, Arrest Suspect in Early Morning Belltown Street Robbery

A suspect is in custody following a street robbery and brief foot pursuit by officers this morning in Belltown.

Shortly after 7:00 am on Saturday morning,  a woman was entering a business located near 4th Avenue and Vine Street when she was approached by an unknown man.  The man began screaming at her and grabbed her purse strap in an attempt to steal it.  The woman was able to retain her purse, however, she dropped her phone when the suspect pushed her.  The suspect grabbed the phone and fled on foot.  Officers Gray-McVey and Sobania were in the area on another incident and saw the suspect.  They attempted to stop the suspect, but he threw the phone at one of the officers.  The suspect continued to run, being pursued by the officers.  The officers eventually caught the suspect at 6th Avenue and Wall Street and took him into custody.  The victim was brought to the scene where she positively identified the suspect as the one who stole her phone.  The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
