Cookie Crook Caught

Detectives arrested a suspected robber and confirmed cookie fan as he arrived for his Department of Corrections appointment Thursday, after police connected him to robberies at nearly a dozen businesses throughout Seattle and King County.

Officers began receiving reports of commercial robberies on January 4th and have since connected eight robberies in Seattle and two in King County to the same individual. In several of the cases, the suspect approached staff at coffee shops and fast food restaurants and ordered a cookie before flashing the handle of a gun and demanding money.

Officers were able to determine the 46-year-old suspect’s identity through a fingerprint left at one of the scenes. Over the course of the past two weeks, detectives had been searching for the man and finally caught up to him Thursday morning when he showed up for his weekly appointment at the Lakewood Department of Corrections Office, because that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Detectives took the man into custody without incident and found a demand note and pellet gun in his pocket. Detectives are now working with the King County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what charges will be filed.
