Men Under Investigation For Celebrating Fourth of July With Fireworks, Firearms

A trio of men drew the attention of SPD’s patrol, SWAT and Gang Units on the 4th of July after they apparently decided to celebrate our nation’s independence by shooting off fireworks and firearms near Columbia City.

Patrol, SWAT and Gang Unit detectives responded to 38th and South Conover Way shortly before 10:30 PM on the 4th.

Officers found shell casings and fireworks near the entrance of an alley and contacted a group of three men in the area.

Police learned the men had dumped a backpack inside a Cadillac parked nearby, and noticed fireworks–similar to the ones found in the alley–sitting inside the vehicle.

Police identified, interviewed and released the three men–who denied firing any weapons–but seized their Cadillac.

Detectives later served a search warrant on the car and found three guns inside. Police continue to investigate the incident.
