Burglar Caught After Breaking into Beacon Hill Home

A 31-year-old man was arrested early this morning after a Beacon Hill couple awoke to find him standing in the doorway of their bedroom.

Around 3 AM, the couple were asleep in their home in the 2800 block of 14th Avenue South when they heard their bedroom door open. They saw the silhouette of a man–who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a plastic grocery bag–in the doorway and shouted at him.

The man fled through a side door, which he’d broken open with a brick.

A short time later, at about 3:20, another homeowner called 911 from a home two blocks away and reported a suspicious man–dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a plastic bag–was standing on his porch.

Officers took the suspect into custody and found the plastic bag, which contained two iPhones, a curtain rod, GPS, all taken from the couple at the first home.

Police booked the man into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary. He was also given a stern talking-to about the environmental impacts of plastic bags.
