Man Arrested For Downtown Cellphone Robbery

Officers arrested a man early Tuesday after he robbed another man for his cell phone.

Witnesses called 911 just after midnight Tuesday to report what appeared to be two men fighting at the corner of 6 Avenue and Cherry Street.

Officers found a 58-year-old man with a gash on his forehead, who told officers the suspect had punched him and taken his cell phone. Police began searching for the suspect who was found three blocks away at 8th Avenue and Columbia Street. The 36-year-old suspect told officers that he had the victim’s phone and he had recently become upset with the victim because the victim had “attempted to sleep in his bed several times.”

Officers arrested the suspect for robbery and recovered the victim’s phone.
