Man Arrested for Early Morning Car Prowl, Assault in North Seattle

A 36-year-old suspect is in custody for burglary and assault on an officer following an early morning incident near Northgate.

At approximately 4:10 am Tuesday officers responded to a reported car prowl in a parking structure in the 500 block of NE Northgate Way.  Officers saw the suspect hiding between vehicles.  When officers confronted him, he ran.  Officers chased the suspect through the neighborhood as he ran toward a fenced off construction site.  As the suspect attempted to jump over the fence, an officer caught up to him and grabbed hold of him.  The suspect turned and punched the officer on the chin.  The officer lost his grip on the suspect and the suspect continued over the fence. The officer was not seriously injured.

The suspect climbed on top of an excavator inside the fenced area as officers attempted to talk him down.  Officers eventually talked the suspect into giving himself up and he climbed down where he was taken into custody without incident.  He was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary and assault.

Detectives will handle the follow up investigation.
