Man Hospitalized After Pulling Knife on Bus Driver, Breaking Into Home, Stealing Car From Dealership and Crashing Into House

A 27-year-old Orting, Washington man was seriously injured Monday in the University District after he ended his 40 minute-long crime spree by crashing a stolen car into a house.

Around 4:20 PM, the Washington State Patrol received a report of a man armed with a knife threatening a bus driver at Interstate 5 and Northeast 65th Street.

About 20 minutes later, the same man was spotted breaking into a home in the 4700 block of 11th Avenue Northeast. He then entered a car dealership on the same block and sped away in a stolen vehicle. Five minutes later, at about 5 PM, the suspect struck several parked vehicles in the 5300 block of 9th Avenue Northeast and collided with a house, driving underneath a porch, smashing a hole in the wall of the home and damaging a gas line. No one in the home was injured.

Police and firefighters worked to evacuate nearby homes, shut off the gas in the area, and extract the suspect from the vehicle under the house.

The suspect, who was carrying a sheathed knife on his waistband when he was pulled from the vehicle, was transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
