Auto Thief Arrested After Brief Pursuit on Beacon Hill

Officers arrested a 28-year-old man Thursday afternoon after he led them on a brief pursuit in a stolen car on Beacon Hill.

Officers had been tracking reports of a stolen Honda Civic in the area and located the car, occupied and running in the 5100 block of 17th Avenue South.  The suspect fled in the car when officers approached, nearly striking an officer’s foot. Police briefly pursued the suspect until he crashed the car into a house in the 1500 block of South Ferdinand Street.  The collision caused a crack in the foundation of the house. The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly caught by a K-9 unit.

The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, where detectives from the Major Crimes Task Force interviewed him.  Following the interview, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of possession of stolen property, eluding, malicious mischief, and drug charges.  Detectives believe the same suspect may be connected to other recent auto thefts in the area.
