Man Arrested, Gun Recovered After Shots Fired Downtown

A 47-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after firing a handgun near 4th Avenue and Pike Street.  There were no reported injuries, but a nearby business did sustain damage to a window.

Shortly after 9:30 pm SPD’s 911 center received multiple reports of a man was firing a gun near 4th and Pike.  Officers arrived very quickly and located the suspect on 6th Avenue, between Pike and Pine.  Officers contacted the man, and located a 9mm handgun next to where he was standing.

Gang Unit detectives responded to the scene and reviewed video surveillance from the area, which showed the man in a verbal confrontation with two other unidentified individuals. During the confrontation, the man pulled a gun from his waistband and fired several shots toward the unidentified individuals, who fled the area and were not located by police.

Officers recovered several 9mm shell casings in the intersection of 4th Avenue and Pike Street.  A bullet hole was discovered in the window of a nearby restaurant.

Detectives processed the scene and collected evidence.  The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
