(UPDATED) Early Morning Collision Investigation in Georgetown, One Arrested, Several Injured

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) detectives responded to an injury collision involving a patrol car and a Mazda in the Georgetown neighborhood early Friday morning.  The officer sustained minor injuries, but was transported to the hospital as a precaution.  One of the passengers in the Mazda had life-threatening injuries, and another occupant had serious injuries.  Both were transported by Seattle Fire to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

On Friday, July 20th, at approximately 1:30 am, a South Precinct officer was driving his patrol vehicle eastbound on South Lucille Street.  At approximately the same time, a Mazda 6, driven by a 21-year-old female and occupied with three passengers, was travelling northbound on 6th Avenue South.  The two vehicles collided at the intersection of 6th Avenue South and South Lucille Street.

It appears that the driver of the Mazda did not stop at a stop sign on 6th Avenue South.  A Drug Recognition Expert officer responded to the scene and evaluated the driver of the Mazda and determined that she showed signs of impairment.  The driver and one of her passengers had only minor injuries, but were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

TCIS detectives responded and processed the scene.  The intersection was closed during the investigation but has since reopened.  After the driver of the Mazda was released from the hospital she was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Assault.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.

Update 7/24: Video of the crash, from the officer’s dash-cam, is now available.
