Capitol Hill Emphasis Patrol Catches Not So Smart Phone Thief

A brazen thief will be spending some time in a cell after trying to steal a woman’s cell phone on Capitol Hill early this morning, right in front of police.

Officers working a Capitol Hill emphasis patrol were walking through the 1500 block of Broadway just before 1:30 a.m. when they saw the 21-year-old suspect chatting up an extremely intoxicated woman.  Right in front of officers, the suspect snatched the woman’s cell phone out of her hand and walked away.

Officers asked the woman if she knew the suspect and discovered that, no, she did not.  Officers quickly caught up to the suspect and arrested him for investigation of theft. They also found the man was wanted on a felony warrant, and booked him into the King County Jail.

Patrol officers later in the evening saw a fight in front of a bar in the 900 block of 12th Ave. The suspect fled before officers could arrest him.  Additional officers flooded the area and found the suspect a few blocks away where they arrested him for assault.
