One man got a remedial lesson in the perils of not keeping your hands to yourself after he groped a woman in Occidental Park Monday morning, was chased by an angry crowd, and arrested by Seattle police.

Around 9:40 AM, police responded to a report of a fight in the park near Occidental Avenue and S Washington Street, where witnesses told officers about the groping incident.

Witnesses also told police a crowd of people had chased the suspect through Pioneer Square, and that the suspect had punched two people in the crowd.

Officers separated the man from the crowd—which officers believed “wanted to take matters into their own hands”—and booked the man into the King County Jail for three counts of assault.

Detectives are investigating a one-vehicle collision that resulted in two children being transported to the hospital with injuries. At approximately 4:09 p.m. officers responded to 911 reports of a vehicle that collided into a pole just south of the intersection of 23rd Avenue and East Jefferson Street.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the adult female driver was traveling northbound on 23rd Avenue approaching East Jefferson Street in a blue Honda. For reasons yet to be determined she lost control of the Honda, drove up on the sidewalk and collided into a light pole. The driver was not injured as a result of the collision.

There were two young children on board, both of whom were injured. Fire department medics responded to the scene and transported a 7-year-old female child to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of her life-threatening injuries. Another child was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries (this second child was in a child safety seat).

Drug Recognition Expert officers responded to the scene to assist with the investigation of the driver, which remains on-going.

The northbound lanes of 23rd Avenue have been completely shut down while officers and detectives conduct their on-scene investigation.

The road is estimated to be back open to all traffic at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.

On the last day of school, most high schoolers promptly return home before sundown and begin preparing for another year of rigorous academic study. However, this year, one West Seattle teen decided to mark the end of the school year with burning instead of learning.

At about 6:30 pm, officers were driving through Schmitz Park—expecting to find the park free of teenagers, who had presumably all gone home to continue their studies instead of heading to the park to deface things and consume alcohol—when they smelled smoke.

Officers then came across a pile of charred school papers, leaves and twigs, and saw a teenage boy running away up a nearby staircase.

Officers caught up to the 15-year-old boy, arrested him and searched his backpack, which contained marijuana cigarettes, brass knuckles, baggies of marijuana hidden inside deodorant containers, several strange yellow capsules a small scale and not a single text book.

Officers called the teen’s grandmother and booked the boy into the Youth Service Center for arson, drug possession, and a weapons violation.

It’s not clear whether this incident was related to another homework arson at a West Seattle school earlier in the day:

It just before 1 am Saturday morning when Officer Anh Hoang heard several loud bangs, like gunshots, as he was patrolling near Occidental Avenue and Yesler Way.

As Officer Hoang drove toward the noises, he saw panicked people running through the streets.

Expecting to find a gunman running through Pioneer Square, Officer Hoang drove toward 2nd Avenue, where spotted a man casually walking down the street. The man then tossed something into the air, and the airborne object sparked and went boom.

The man spotted Officer Hoang and took off running, but officers chased the man through an alley and caught up to him a parking lot.

The man apologized and told officers he had already set off all of his fireworks. So, of course, officers found more firecrackers hidden inside the man’s backpack.

Officers arrested the man for reckless endangerment and booked him into the King County Jail.

Officers were a block away investigating another crime when the call came in a 4:40 this morning. The clerk at the 7-11 store at 1st and Cherry had called 911, stating that the suspect was inside the store and had attempted to shoplift several items. When the clerk confronted the man outside, the suspect dropped the items and then threatened the clerk with a knife. The clerk went back into the store and called 911.

Officers located the suspect about a block away. The suspect was still holding the knife, but officers were able to get him to drop it and detain him without incident. The clerk responded to the scene and positively identified the man as the suspect. The knife was a sharpened butter knife.

The suspect was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.

A victim was choked until he lost consciousness. Today, just shortly after 12:00 p.m., the suspect and victim were sitting on one of the benches in Victor Steinbrueck Park. They knew each other from previous contacts and reportedly had done some hitchhiking together.

The suspect told the victim that he wanted money from him and that they should then part ways. When the victim questioned this the suspect then started choking the victim until he was unconscious and then took $39.00 from him.

The victim was unconscious for about two minutes. Third parties that were dining at a nearby restaurant, which is adjacent to the park, witnessed this incident.

Bike officers responded to the area and located the suspect who was still in the park. They placed the suspect in custody after the victim and the third party witness identified him.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.

A man was beaten and robbed of his ipad. On 06-15-2013, just shortly before 11:00 p.m., the victim was walking through Freeway Park smoking a cigarette. The victim was approached by two men who asked him for a cigarette.

The victim gave both men a cigarette and then one of them produced a can of chemical agent and pointed it at the victim. The victim attempted to flee on foot but was caught by both the suspects and knocked to the ground.

The suspects demanded the victim’s phone and wallet. The suspect gave up his computer bag which contained his ipad. The suspects rifled through that and took the victim’s ipad and then went through the victim’s back pockets demanding his wallet and phone. They were not successful at retrieving those items and the suspects fled on foot.

The victim had a tracking program for his ipad. After calling 911 he began tracking the device. An officer arrived and coordinated the search with the victim and had numerous officers respond to the area to conduct a search.

Officers working a VPEP patrol responded to the area and located the suspect still holding on to the ipad. The suspect attempted to conceal some brass knuckles in a trash container. The victim positively identified the subject as one of the suspects who violently robbed him. The victim also identified his ipad with the security code.

The suspect was processed and later booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery. Officers recovered an ID card off of the suspect that did not belong to him. The suspect told officers that the ID belong to the other suspect involved in this incident. The 23-year-old suspect already has two robbery convictions plus various other crimes in his criminal history.

Suspect 2 is still at large.

A DV assault suspect was arrested after he was found hiding in a sofa storage compartment. This morning, just shortly after 11:00 a.m., officers responded to a DV Assault at an apartment in the 8600 block of Delridge Way SW. The investigation showed that the victim had been assaulted and had attempted to report the incident to 9-1-1.

While the victim was on the line, making the report, the suspect grabbed the phone away and threw it into the trash can. The suspect fled before officers arrived. The victim reported at that time that the suspect had at least three firearms that he kept positioned at various points throughout the apartment. Two children, ages two and three, were present during the assault. Officers took a report and left the residence.

Two hours later in the day another 9-1-1 call was received from the apartment. The operator could hear small children then the line disconnected. The dispatcher called back several times however the calls went unanswered. Officers responded back to the apartment. When the officers arrived, they could hear voices inside but no one answered the door.

Officers saw the “peephole” darken and tried the door. As the unlocked door was being opened, officers very loudly announced their intent and identification. The door was then pushed closed and locked.

Given the circumstances of the earlier call and the reported presence of firearms it was decided that the apartment would be contained and a SWAT callout would be initiated.

Shortly after the call was placed for SWAT, the female resident opened the door and came out with her children. She told officers that the suspect was not there but her demeanor said otherwise.

Officers entered the apartment to clear it and did not find the suspect. A sectional sofa in the living room, however, seemed far heavier than it should have been. Officers tipped the sofa on its back and located the suspect fully concealed within a storage bin hidden in the sofa. He was arrested without incident.

During the clearing sweep officers found three firearms in plain view. Notable was the positioning of the Sig in a bookcase in the living room. It was less than four feet from the floor and reachable by the 3 year old girl. The girl, in fact, pointed out all three locations where “Daddy” keeps his guns. All firearms were taken into police custody pending DV charges.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for DV Assault.

After repeated problems at Pioneer Square’s Club Volume, Seattle police and the City Attorney’s office have declared the club a Chronic Public Nuisance.

Since the beginning of the year, police have responded to more than a dozen incidents at Club Volume, including parking lot brawls, and incidents involving lax security, drunken juveniles, passed-out patrons, brawls, and cases of assault and robbery right on the club’s dance floor.

Now, the city is working to force the club’s owners to curb these ongoing issues or face the possible revocation of their business license and fines of up to $25,000.

“The City’s goal has always been to have a safe and successful nightlife industry,” says West Precinct City Attorney’s Office Liaison Sumeer Singla. “However, the City is deeply concerned by ongoing criminal activities at Club Volume. This Chronic Nuisance Declaration provides an opportunity for the City to work with the property and club owners to end criminal activities linked with the club.”
