The Seattle Police Department is in the training and evaluation stages of deploying an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Since first exploring the possibilities and advantages of an unmanned aerial program to the present day, nothing has changed substantively.
The possible use of a UAV by SPD has been in the news for quite a while and has been covered by at least two television networks previously. It is important to note that the UAVs have not been deployed and will not be deployed until appropriate policies for use are developed and approved.
We have discussed this technology and its use with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) prior to the KOMO 4 story airing.
