Three Arrested Near Occidental Park Following Protests Downtown

Officers deployed pepper spray to break up a large fight and arrested three people near Occidental Park this afternoon following the protests downtown.

Officers were visible this morning and early afternoon as they worked to ensure the safety of two different groups today.  One organization had a permit to hold a rally at City Hall Plaza at 4th and Cherry, while the second, much larger group marched from Occidental Park this morning and held a rally on 4th Avenue.  Officers used fencing and bicycle officers to keep the opposing groups separate.

At the conclusion of the rally the large group returned to Occidental Park.  Officers continued to monitor the crowds and separate the opposing groups, but shortly after 12:30 a large fight broke out.  Officers used pepper spray to break up the crowd.  Officers arrested one woman and two men for obstructing.  They were later booked into the King County Jail.
