Detectives Investigating After Robber Fires Gun in Ballard

UPDATE 11/13: Detectives have recovered the suspect vehicle in this case but still need your help finding the suspect. Robbery detectives have located additional photos of the suspect and would like anyone with information to please call them at (206)684-5535.

UPDATE 11/6:  Detectives have released surveillance images of the suspect and suspect vehicle.  The vehicle is believed to be a black,  early 2000s GMC Denali SUV.  The vehicle did not have any license plates.

The suspect is described as a black male, between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 6′ to 6’2″ tall, 180-200 pounds, with thin facial hair.  He was wearing a orange/yellow and dark gray jacket, dark pants and bright orange shoes.  He was armed with a handgun.

Robbery detectives are searching for an armed robber suspected of firing a handgun when a bystander tried to retrieve a woman’s stolen purse Tuesday morning in Ballard.

Just before 11:00 am, officers responded to a report of shots fired near 20th Avenue Northwest and Northwest Market Street. 911 callers stated a suspect, armed with a handgun, had stolen a woman’s purse.

When a witness tried to intervene in the robbery and get the victim’s purse back from the suspect, the suspect fired one round into the ground.

The suspect, described as a black male, in his forties, with facial hair and a puffy jacket and dark pants, fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV.

The robbery victim sustained injuries when she attempted to grab onto the fleeing suspect’s vehicle and fell to the ground.  She was later taken to the hospital for further medical treatment. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers located the suspect’s fleeing vehicle minutes later and attempted to stop him.  The suspect drove southbound on Aurora Avenue North and officers lost sight of it south of the stadiums.
