Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the 2500 block of Westlake Avenue North following a two-vehicle collision with injuries Thursday night. The driver of one of the vehicles was later arrested.
At approximately 10:20 pm, a Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 52-year-old man and occupied by two women, was travelling southbound and crossed the centerline near the 2500 block of Westlake Avenue North. The SUV struck a northbound Honda Passport, driven by a 36-year-old woman. A passenger in the Mercury sustained substantial injuries.
Seattle Fire responded and treated the injured and transported them to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Officers suspected that the 52-year-old male driver was impaired and requested that a Traffic/Drug Recognition Expert respond to process a search warrant for the driver’s blood at the hospital, which is standard in injury collision investigations.
TCIS detectives responded and processed the scene. After closing the street in both directions for the investigation, the road was reopened to traffic.
The male remains at the hospital and will be booked into jail when he is released. This remains an active and on-going TCIS investigation.
