Seattle Police Investigating Shooting in Chinatown-International District

Seattle police officers are investigating the shooting of a 21-year-old woman in the Chinatown-International District this afternoon.

At about 1:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of Rainier Avenue South. There, officers found the victim suffering from two gunshot wounds to her upper back. Police and the Seattle Fire Department treated the victim. First responders transported her to Harborview Medical Center in serious, but stable condition.

Police determined that the victim got into a verbal altercation with another woman in the nearby Hoa Mai Park which turned into a physical altercation. During this incident, the suspect pulled out a handgun and started pistol whipping the victim before shooting her in the back.

The suspect left the area before police arrived, and officers did not locate her.

While searching for the suspect, Community Response Group (CRG) officers found an associate of hers nearby and arrested him for an outstanding $10,075 felony warrant for Dangerous Drugs. He declined to speak to the officers when asked about the shooting.

CRG booked the 26-year-old man into the King County Jail for his warrant. The shooting suspect remains outstanding.
