SPD honored with DoD award

The Washington State Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today that  Police Chief John Diaz was honored in recognition of the Seattle Police Department’s continuing and extraordinary support of its public service officers and staff members who serve in the Washington National Guard and Reserve.

Chief Diaz was nominated by Jonathan Cole (CW2, B Co. 1-168th GSAB. TF Viper).  The award was started in recognition of personal support from the Chief and SPD  Human Resources Department.  Both the King County and the City of Seattle law enforcement organizations have a tradition of support for their many citizen warriors who have answered the call to serve.

This was a multi part presentation:  A personal certificate was awarded to Chief Diaz, and a Seattle Police Department certificate to the entire organization.   A ‘traveling’ SPD tactical cap was returned to its rightful owner. And, as a token of his organizations continuing support, ESGR received three Challenge Coins from Chief Diaz.

According to Bob Dewald, ESGR Washington Committee Chairman, “The Employer Support Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize both individuals and the organization, where both provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their military service employees.”
