Shots fired at business on “The Ave”

On June 17th, at approximately 12:45 AM, North Precinct officers responded to a report of shots fired outside a business in the 4300 Block of University Way NE.  As officers arrived, they noticed the window of the business was broken, which according to an employee,  occurred when the shots were fired.  There were no injuries.   The employee told officers that the suspect shooter was a black male, approximately 6′ tall, 175 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.  He was observed running southbound on the Ave immediately after the shots were fired.  Patrol officers began to search for the suspect.  An officer spotted a possible suspect in the 4500 Block of Brooklyn Avenue NE, but then lost sight of the suspect.  A K9 team arrived and the dog and officers conducted a K9 track to the 1000 Block of NE Ravenna Boulevard. There officers located a suspect sitting on the ground.  After taking the suspect into custody, witnesses were brought by the scene for identification.  All of the witnesses that were brought by stated that the person detained was not the correct suspect.  He was identified and then released by officers.

Officers then returned to the 4500 Block of Brooklyn Ave. NE and began searching for additional evidence.  A black jacket was recovered there, and officers discovered a black handgun that had been thrown over a fence at that location.  The gun was reported as stolen.  All of the items were collected and submitted into evidence.  Officers back at the scene of the shooting located and collected  shell casings.  Detectives will be handling the follow up investigation.  Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to contact Seattle Police.
