Child struck by van in South Seattle

On April 8th, at approximately 6:30 pm, South Precinct officers responded to a report of a child that had been struck by a vehicle in the 7500 Block of 43rd Avenue South.  The female driver of a Dodge van was attempting to back out of the apartment complex’s driveway onto 43rd Avenue South.  As the  van was backing westbound, an 18-month old female ran from behind a parked car and was hit by the van. Seattle Fire Department responded and transported the child to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene and began to invesitage the collision portion of the incident. The driver of the van was evaluated at the scene for any signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs, but none were detected.  This remains an active and on going investigation.
