After receiving numerous requests for enforcement on Mercer Street, last night Seattle Police Traffic Officers conducted an enforcement emphasis. A total of 16 citations and nine warnings were issued during a two hour period. Officers only ticketed the most flagrant violators, with many others getting a verbal warning.
Officers received many positive comments from passing motorists. Most of them stated that they noticed a substantial improvement during the commute once officers starting ticketing people.
Traffic Officers will maintain a continued presence on Mercer Street, as the enforcement patrols were not only needed, but very well received by the public.
The Seattle Police Department encourages all motor vehicle operators and bicyclists to be familiar with and obey all local and state traffic laws and to always drive with due regard for all others on the roadway.
And remember: “Don’t block the box”.
