Officers arrested a car prowler in Wallingford this morning and recovered a stolen handgun after the prowler tried breaking into a car right in front of a very helpful witness.
Around 7:15 this morning, the witness was sitting in his car near Stone Way and N. 45th Street, when he saw the 23-year-old prowler trying to open the doors of another car parked on the street.
The suspect quickly discovered the car’s doors were locked, so he pulled a handgun out of his pocket and used it to try and smash the car’s window.
The witness flashed his headlights at the suspect, and the suspect took off running down N. 43rd Street.
The witness followed the suspect and called 911.
Officers began searching the neighborhood for the suspect, and found him trying to break into another car near Woodland Park Avenue N. and N. 45th Street.
When officers arrested the suspect, they also found a handgun—which was reported stolen—lying on the ground nearby.
Police learned the suspect is a convicted felon—who’s not supposed to have access to firearms—also wanted for a felony domestic violence warrant.
Officers booked the suspect into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of stolen property, and the felony warrant.
