Arson detectives are investigating a mattress burning in North Seattle that caused damage to a tree and a parked car this morning.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. officers and firefighters responded to 911 calls of a mattress fire on a planting strip in the 5200 block of 17th Avenue NE. After the fire was extinguished preliminary investigation revealed that the fire damaged a tree the mattress was leaning up against and also a vehicle parked right next to it.
Shortly before the fire was discovered a witness observed a group of males driving with their vehicle lights off and throwing eggs out the windows of the vehicle. Responding officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle approximately six blocks away from where the fire was discovered.
All the occupants of the vehicle were identified, interviewed and released pending further investigation.
Arson/Bomb Squad (ABS) detectives will have responsibility for the active and on-going investigation.
