Early Morning Robbery Arrest Downtown

A 42-year-old man was arrested early this morning after he threatened a store clerk with a knife after being confronted for shoplifting in the 600 Block of 1st Avenue.

Officers were a block away investigating another crime when the call came in a 4:40 this morning.  The clerk at the 7-11 store at 1st and Cherry had called 911, stating that the suspect was inside the store and had attempted to shoplift several items.  When the clerk confronted the man outside, the suspect dropped the items and then threatened the clerk with a knife.  The clerk went back into the store and called 911.

Officers located the suspect about a block away.  The suspect was still holding the knife, but officers were able to get him to drop it and detain him without incident.  The clerk responded to the scene and positively identified the man as the suspect.  The knife was a sharpened butter knife.

The suspect was arrested and later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
