Officer Trapped in Car After Collision

An officer rushing to the aid of another officer drove into a pole and was trapped in his patrol car at Highland Park Way SW and W Marginal Way SW Monday night.

An officer drove down Highland Park Way SW at 9:00p.m. Monday night when the car slid on pavement that was slick with fresh rainfall.  The vehicle slid until the backend of the patrol car collided with a pole.
A passing car was unable to avoid the patrol car and collided with the disabled police car.

Seattle Fire Department firefighters scrambled to the scene and found the officer trapped in the car.  They quickly worked to remove the officer from the car and transported him to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) with minor injuries.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her 30’s, and her passengers, two eight-year-olds and a nine-year old, were all taken too HMC for evaluation.  A one-year-old also in the car was uninjured and taken home by the father.

Traffic Collision investigators are at the scene and continue to investigate.

It remains very early in the investigation and details may change as the investigation continues.
