Investigators are searching for a small black car with extenstive front end damgage, possibly a Mazda, following an early morning hit and run collision to a Seattle Police patrol vehicle on southbound Interstate 5.
The officer was driving southbound on the freeway, just after 4 am, approaching the 65th Street exit, when the suspect vehicle rammed the patrol car from behind. The impact caused the officer’s vehicle to move across the lanes of traffic and into the embankment. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.
The officer has been transported to the hospital to be checked out, but fortunately, does not appear to have any serious injuries.
Officers are searching for the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
Several lanes of I-5 southbound are closed during this investigation. Washington State Patrol is assisting.
