Original:

Police have increased patrols around 3rd Avenue and Pine Street after a group of suspects attacked and robbed three tourists late Monday night outside the downtown bus tunnel.

The victims, who were visiting Seattle from Rhode Island, were walking to the tunnel’s entrance just before 11 PM when they passed by a group of men and women on the street.

One of the women in the group confronted the victims and accused them of bumping into her. When one the victims apologized to the group, a female suspect burned one of the victims, a 29-year-old man, with a lit cigarette. The group of suspects stole a cellphone from the victims and then struck the 29-year-old man in the head with a broken bottle when he began shouting for help. The suspects also attacked the two female victims–who are 23 and 24 years old–punching them both in the face.

Police arrived at the scene, but the group of suspects had fled. However, officers did arrest one man at the scene after he interfered with medics’ efforts to treat the victims, and told the victims they “deserved’ to be beaten and robbed. Police are investigating whether the man was also involved in the robbery.

The victims weren’t able to provide police with many details about the group of suspects, but did describe the woman who burned the male victim as a black female in her 20’s, 5’8″-5’10”, with a heavy build, wearing a brown jacket, grey shirt and jeans.

West Precinct Bike officers are focusing their patrols in the area around the bus tunnel as detectives work to identify the suspects.
