Two Arrested For Car Prowls Overnight

Officers arrested two car prowlers in separate incidents overnight.

In the first call, officers responded to a report of a man breaking into a red SUV near Southwest Avalon Way and Southwest Spokane Street just after 11 p.m. Thursday.  Officers arrived in the area and found the 35-year-old suspect sitting inside rummaging through a gym bag. Officers ordered the man out of the vehicle and verified the suspect had already pocketed a GPS unit before he was found sifting through the bag. Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into King County Jail for theft.

In a second incident, officers responded to a parking garage at Northeast 105th Street and 5 Avenue Northeast at 7:30 Friday morning for a report of a man rifling through a car as the alarm sounded.   Officers searched the garage and found a 36-year-old man still inside the sedan. Officers spoke to the man who said he had just received the car as his gift from his mother for “good grades.” Officers ran the plate and found it was registered to a person who was not the man they were speaking with.  Officers also conducted a computer check of the suspect’s name that revealed he had two felony warrants.  The suspect was arrested for the warrants and after contacting the registered owner of the vehicle confirmed the suspect had not been given the car as a reward for his educational endeavors.  Officers booked the suspect into King County jail for the warrants and are requesting charges for theft.
