Assault at Grocery Store Leads Officers to Sawed-Off Shotgun

Officers arrested two teens and recovered a sawed-off shotgun after they assaulted a grocery store security guard in the Mount Baker neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Employees of a grocery store in the 3800 block Rainier Avenue South called 911 Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. to report a shoplifting where the suspects had also assaulted store security.  The employees said the two suspects slapped the security guard before running away on foot.

Officers responding to the call spotted the two suspects — a 19-year-old- male and a 15-year-old girl — in the 3600 block of South Charleston Street. Officers took the two suspects into custody and found a sawed-off shotgun in the 19-year-old’s backpack as well as items taken from the store.

Police booked the male suspect into King County Jail for possession of an unlawful firearm and the female suspect into King County Youth Services Center for a felony warrant.
