Overnight Collision in Ballard Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) are conducting the investigation into a multi-vehicle, fatality collision that left one person dead and several others injured in Ballard early Friday morning.

At approximately 12:30 am, officers responded to the intersection of 15th Avenue NW and NW Market Street for a collision involving at least four vehicles.  It appears that one vehicle, a Mazda pickup, drove through a red light while travelling eastbound on NW Market Street,  colliding with two other vehicles, a Toyota and a Volvo. The impact forced one of those vehicles into a third vehicle, a Toyota SUV.  The pickup struck a traffic control box on the corner of the intersection that knocked out power to the traffic control lights in the intersection.

Officers and Seattle Fire Department medics responded to the scene.  A passenger from the pickup sustained injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center by medics.  The driver of the pickup was declared deceased at the scene by the medics.  Two other drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

TCIS detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation.  Seattle Department of Transportation and Seattle City Light also responded to repair the damage to the traffic control box.  This remains an active and on-going investigation.
