Man shot in the Atlantic neighborhood

On October 2nd at 7:19 PM, a 30-year-old male victim and two friends went into a convenience store in the 2700 block of South Jackson to purchase some refreshments.  The victim stated that he noticed about 10 to 15 individuals across the street at Flo-Ware park.  He stated that he heard someone in this crowd of individuals say, “Is that him?”  The victim went into the store and but did not purchase anything, since they did not carry the refreshment he sought.  He left the store with his friends walking westbound away from the group of individuals.  He said that he heard several shots fired towards him from this group, one of which struck him in the leg. The victim and his friends fled to M.L. King Jr. Way S and then ran southbound before flagging down a patrol officer.
Patrol officers stated that they had recently driven through the intersection and observed several individuals in the area of Flo Ware Park.  However, those responsible for the shooting had fled before officers could return to the area
The victim’s injury is not life-threatening.  The Gang Unit is actively investigating.
