Accidental, self-inflicted shooting in South Seattle

On November 17th at about 1:37 P.M., a citizen called 911 to report that a man had been shot in the leg and had been transported to 7500 Block of Renton Av S. The driver of the car was taking the victim to the hospital when they saw an ambulance and decided to pull over and summon medical assistance.  Initially the victim and his two friends reported that he had been standing on the sidewalk near Renton Avenue South and South Holden Street when an unknown person shot him for an unknown reason. Once it was pointed out that the shell casing was inside the vehicle he was transported in and that there was a burn mark on the victims pants the truth came out.

The victim and witnesses were inside a residence in the 7700 Block of Renton Avenue South.  The victim appearently had the weapon with him and pulled it out. The witness stated that he heard a loud pop and saw the victim was shot. He then put the victim in his car and started towards the hospital. Officers and Seattle Fire responded to the 7500 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and contained the area. After the victim was transported to the hospital officers went to the residence and recovered the weapon. The 16-year-old male victim is being treated for a non life-threatening injury to his leg and the investigation continues.
