On November 22 at approximately 10:13 P.M. officers spotted an occupied stolen Nissan Pathfinder while on patrol near Boren Avenue and James Street. Officers attempted to stop the stolen SUV. The suspect ran a stop sign at 9th Avenue and Jefferson Street and collided with an ambulance that was enroute to Harborview Medical Center with a patient. After striking the ambulance, the suspect fled the scene of the collision. The suspect drove onto the sidewalk, ran over a sign, and struck a building pillar near the Emergency Room entrance to Harborview Medical Center. The 17-year-old male suspect, who was not injured as a result of the collisions, was taken into custody by officers. The ambulance was occupied by four people: two EMTs, a patient, and a friend of the patient. The patient’s friend and one of the EMTs sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and were treated at Harborview. The juvenile suspect was booked into the Youth Service Center for Investigation of Auto Theft, Investigation of Attempting to Elude Police, and Investigation of Hit & Run (all felony charges). The suspect may face additional, lesser charges as well.
