On October 8th 1993, at approximately 2210 hours, the victim, a then 23 year-old woman, was driving her vehicle with a male passenger, on Martin Luther King Jr. Wy S and S. Hanford St. The suspect, a then 17-year-old male was in another vehicle directly behind the victim’s vehicle. While stopped at a traffic signal, the suspect exited his vehicle and approached the victim’s vehicle on foot. Words were exchanged and the suspect opened fire with a semiautomatic handgun, striking the victim in the head. The passenger in the victim’s vehicle was uninjured.
The suspect was later arrested and charged with Assault. He was a juvenile at the time of the incident and was sentenced to 84 months in prison. The victim was paralyzed but survived her wounds for more than 14 years.
The King County Medical Examiner has ruled the death a Homicide. The victim was 38 years old at the time of her death.
The suspect, now 32, is currently serving a 60-year sentence in Indiana for Murder.
