On February 2nd at approximately 12:18 P.M., a 2001 Chrylser 300m driven by an 83 year-old male was travelling southbound on Beacon Avenue South. At the same time, a Honda Civic driven by a 23 year-old male was also travelling southbound on Beacon Avenue South, to the right of the Chrysler on the one-lane road. The driver of the Honda intended on turning left at South Ferdinand St. Neither driver claimed to have seen the other and the left side of the Honda collided with the right side of the Chrysler. After the impact, the Chrysler veered to the left, struck a tree in the median of Beacon Avenue South, flipped and landed on its roof as it came to rest. The Honda veered to the right and up onto the west sidewalk where it came to rest. The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Harborview with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda was also transported to the hospital with complaints of head pain. The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and began its investigation. The southbound lane of Beacon Ave. South remained closed for the duration of the investigation. At 3:35 P.M. the southbound lanes were reopened to traffic.
