Four-vehicle crash, serious injuries

On March 12th at approximately 2:26 p.m. officers responded to a parking lot on the northwest corner of Beacon Avenue South and South Columbian Way for a four-vehicle collision that involved serious injuries. Preliminary investigation indicates that an 81-year-old female driving a black Lexus sedan lost control of her car while attempting to back out of a parking spot. She collided with an occupied maroon Dodge Caravan parked next to her. She then struck a female pedestrian that had been a passenger in her car. She continued rearward striking another female pedestrian and colliding into a burgundy Toyota Scion and came to rest after colliding into a third vehicle, an unoccupied silver Suzuki SUV. Officers arriving on scene found the driver of the Lexus outside of her vehicle. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The first female she struck was transported to HMC with non-life-threatening injuries; the second female she struck (near the Toyota Scion) was transported to HMC with life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Dodge Caravan were uninjured. Traffic Collision Investigation Squad Detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
