On 7/31/09, at about 1:11 a.m., officers heard what sounded like one gunshot in the area of 1st Ave/Bell St. They responded to the area from which the shot came and contacted security personnel at a bar in the 100 block of Bell St. Officers contacted security staff and discovered that one of the men had been shot in the left hand. The bar’s Staff was holding one subject, and directed officers to a second subject, who reportedly had the gun. Both subjects were taken into custody without further incident.
After interviewing witnesses, it was determined that the two subjects had been in the club and had been kicked out. The subjects became angry, and one of them threatened to get a gun and shoot the place up. The two subjects then fled N/B in the alley, and Security Personnel gave chase. The subejcts got to their car, and one subject retrieved a gun from and threatened the security personnel. A struggle ensued over the gun, and one shot was fired, striking the victim in the left hand. During the continued struggle, the gun dropped to the ground, and the second subject picked it up.
Gang Unit detectives responded, and though it does not appear to be gang related, they assisted with processing the scene.
In addition to the firearm, one spent shell casing and one live round was recovered. The suspect’s vehicle was also towed to the processing room.
