On January 4th at approximately 11:17 am officers responded to a serious injury collision involving three vehicles in the intersection at 20th Avenue South and South Main Street. A beige 1993 Toyota Corolla four door sedan driven by a 50-year old female was travelling northbound on 20th Avenue South, approaching South Main Street. At the same time, a white 2008 Chevrolet van, driven by a 48-year old male was travelling westbound on South Main. As the van entered the intersection, it struck the Toyota on the passenger side. The impact spun the Toyota, where it was then struck on the driver’s side by a blue 2003 Honda Odyssey van driven by a 66-year old male. During the collision, a three-year old child in a car seat was ejected from the Toyota, while still in the car seat. Another child seated in the rear of the Toyota was also injured as were the driver and adult passenger. All four occupants of the Toyota were transported to Harborview Medical Center for medical treatment.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Initial reports indicate that the children and one adult had the most serious injuries. Neither of the van drivers were injured. All of the vehicles were towed from the scene and the drivers released pending further investigation. This is an active and on-going TCIS investigation.
