Huge fight disturbance and shots fired near area nightclub

On 3/19/10, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers were working club emphasis patrol in the 300 block of 5th Av N.  The officers were at Broad St. & Thomas talking to a group of people that had come from the club, when they heard three shots coming from the club.

The officers immediately broadcast the call and contacted club security who provided a description of two of the involved parties.  Club Security stated that two groups of what appeared to be rival gang members (one group in red, the other in blue) were engaged in a verbal altercation.

Someone from the group on the north side of the street reportedly fired one shot, and someone from the group on the south side fired two in return.  There was no indication that anyone was hit by any of the rounds.  According to security, neither group had been in the club or in line to get in.

One of the suspects was described as a black male, 6-05, 300lbs.  Gang Unit Detectives located this suspect and friends at 5th Ave/Denny Way.  The group was detained, and the detectives recovered a stolen semi-auto handgun on a 16 -year-old male.

The 16-year-old-male was booked into Youth Services Center  for Investigation of Violation of Uniform Firearms Act.

The others were indentifed and released at the scene.
