On April 8th at approximately 10:57 p.m. Gang Unit detectives were on patrol in South Seattle. Near 42nd Avenue South and South Willow Street, detectives spotted a stolen maroon Mercedes SUV and attempted to stop it. The suspect refused to yield and a short pursuit ensued which the detectives terminated shortly thereafter. The suspect continued to flee. A few minutes later an officer on patrol in a marked police car traveling southbound on Rainier Avenue South spotted the suspect vehicle traveling northbound in the 6700 block of Rainier Avenue South. As the officer turned around he saw the suspect turn into a parking lot and crash into a concrete barrier.
The suspect exited the now disabled stolen vehicle and began to flee on foot. Officers took the suspect into custody and then noticed that the suspect, a 51-year-old male, appeared to need medical attention. SFD medics were called to the scene and subsequently transported the suspect to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The stolen vehicle was recovered. Officers will forward recommended criminal charges to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
