Assault in Pioneer Square, suspect arrested

On May 23rd at approximately 1:20 a.m. officers were monitoring the crowd outside a nightclub in the 150 block of South Washington Street as there had been earlier minor disturbances there.  While there, an officer witnessed a disturbance at the bottom of the stairs at the South Washington Street entrance.  Club staff were making an effort to remove the male suspect from the club and the suspect was becoming combative.  When the suspect balled his fists as if he were going to strike a member of the security staff, the officer intervened, identified himself and began leading the suspect away.  The suspect pulled away from the officer and explicitly threatened to assault him.   The suspect then struck a member of security and as he was preparing to deliver a second blow, the officer pulled the male off balance.  The suspect got up and assaulted another member of the security staff.  As the suspect attempted to then assault the officer, he was taken into custody.

The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for two counts of assault and one count of harassment.
