On August 3rd, at approximately 4:00 AM, a woman was sleeping inside a bus shelter in the 2100 Block of 4th Avenue. A male suspect approached the sleeping victim and began to rummage through her pockets. The suspect then wrestled her backpack off her back. The suspect then ran off with the woman’s backpack. The victim began yelling and gave chase to the man. An officer happened to be driving by and observed the victim chasing the suspect. The victim indicated she had been robbed and the officer followed the suspect into an alley, where he observed the suspect rummaging through the backpack. When the suspect saw the officer, he dropped the backpack and ran. The officer was able to follow the suspect in his patrol car until additional officers arrived. The suspect was arrested without incident at 2nd and Virginia Street. The 45 year old male was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery. The victim was not injured.
