On September 29th at around 6:54, East Precinct patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious package at the corner of Broadway and Howell Street. Officers arrived and shut down the intersection. The package, a suitcase, was quickly located on the sidewalk in the southeast corner of the intersection. Officers consulted with Arson Bomb detectives and proceeded to shut down Broadway. Arson Bomb detectives responsed and x-rayed the suitcase. It was empty. Broadway has since been reopened.
The citizen in this case acted correctly. The Seattle Police Department urges all citizens to report suspicious activity to 911 – “if you see something, say something”.
