Man assaulted in Belltown

On 10/17/10,  at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers were working the Operation Safe Streets detail in the Belltown Entertainment District.  While on patrol, the officers on-viewed a fight disturbance next to the hot dog stand at 1stAve/Blanchard.  They located a victim with an injury to his right eye.

The victim, a Canadian citizen, was standing in the line waiting for a hot-dog when the suspect, an Asian female, 25-years-old, and some of her friends cut in front of him. A verbal argument ensued and insults were exchanged.  During this argument, the suspect punched the victim in his right eye.

The officers were advised that the victim was a recent recipient of a corneal transplant to his right eye, the eye that was struck by the suspect.  The victim told the officers, when he was hit, he heard a “pop” in his eye and he immediately became blinded in the eye.  The victim felt he might lose vision because of recent surgery and blow to the eye.

Independent witnesses identified the suspect and she was taken into custody.  The suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.  The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
