On February 1st, at approximately 8:15 AM, East Precinct officers responded to the intersection of 18th Avenue East and East Yesler Way. A 77 year old female pedestrian was walking southbound across East Yesler Way in the marked crosswalk. At the same time, a Volvo driven by a 46 year old female was travelling northbound on 18th and began to turn left onto East Yesler Way, when the Volvo struck the pedestrian. Seattle Fire Department also responded to the scene and transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with an undetermined head injury, a fractured hip and fractured leg. Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded and took over the investigation. The driver was evaluated at the scene for any signs of impairment, and it was determined that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver was investigated and released from the scene pending further investigation. TCIS detectives will continue to conduct their investigation. The intersection was closed while the investigation was being conducted, but the roadway is now back open.
