Hit and run collision/foot pursuit of a suspect armed with a sword in North Seattle

On February 16th, at approximately 2:30 PM, North Precinct officers responded to a call of a possible hit and run collision that occurred at North 93rd Street and Aurora Avenue North.  Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle, unoccuppied, at N. 90th and Aurora.  While conducting their investigation, officers observed the suspect jumping over fences in the area of the 8800 Block of Midvale Avenue North.  Additional officers came into the area to set up containment.  It appeared that the suspect was hiding in the area of Nesbit and Midvale.  The suspect then emerged from hiding holding a 3 foot long straight sword.  Officers used less-lethal force to take the suspect into custody when he refused to obey commands to drop the sword.    A loaded handgun was located inside the suspect’s vehicle, which was later impounded.  The 39 year old male suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Investigation of VUCSA.  Detectives are following up on this incident.
