On March 21st, just after 8:00 PM, witnesses called 911 to report a boat collision into the 520 Bridge. SPD Harbor, patrol, Seattle Fire Department and the Washington State Patrol all responded as the boat, believed to be a 30′ pleasure boat, and it’s two occupants were pinned underneath the west highrise of the bridge. There was significant damage to the vessel, and SFD had to cut the occupants out of the boat. Once out, the occupants were transported to the hospital with injuries. It was believed that the operator of the boat had sustained possible life threatening injuries as a result of the collision, so TCIS detectives were called out. However, at the hospital the victim’s condition stabilized and the investigation will now be handled by SPD Harbor.
The boat was left in place overnight and will most likely be removed sometime today during daylight hours. Alcohol may have contributed to this collision.
